About Us

Punky Dog Gear started as a hobby for my wife who had been working as an online tutor.

Holly enjoyed tutoring and received many awards and was able to teach on most every grade level she agreed to teach. She was beloved by her students and the company alike. However, Holly started having seizures, perhaps, due to the stress of the job.

About the time Holly started having seizures, a local friend knew of a Service Dog trainer who was retiring and who had wanted to give Holly her newly trained ten-month old Service Dog, Oakley. There was a problem though.

Holly did not have any Service Dog gear for her new best friend!

Holly is an artist by heart, talent, and education. She is also a sculptress in clay. She knows anatomy, perspective, and proportion well.

Because of her need for gear, Holly started researching what gear was available on the World Wide Web for Service Dogs.

Holly saw some references on the Internet and tried her best not to copy other designers (though there are standard designs).

After she discovered her own style, off she went using her talent, Oakley, and her references in order to design her own gear!

The rest is history in the making!

But since Holly had become disabled, that is where I came into the picture.

Hi! My name is Jeff. I am Holly's husband of nearly 23 years and her ready helper!

At first, I left Holly alone with PDG because making gear was her therapy and her hobby.

However, Holly's gear became popular, which meant, just like with her tutoring, she began having seizures from the stress.

I came on board to help her. After that, I realized why she was having the stress!

The job is too big for one person when it is not organized nor facilitated by technology.

Holly didn't have the where with all to keep track of all of those details.

All of the details that go into making gear are very many and very stressful. There are lots and lots and lots of details!

So when I came on board, I slowed down our production so that I could organize the business and add technology to do it.

Fortunately, the global slowdown came at about the same time, so I was able to create technical tools to manage the many details.

We are still in our development stage, which is why certain areas have (developing) labeled on them.

You will see some of the new technology on the website while there are still many other technological advances in the shop.

We're trying to bring it all up to speed so that everyone can have a smoother transaction history with us!

In the end, Punky Dog Gear, overall, is still just a hobby for our family. We enjoy the social aspect of it the most!
